Preparation and admission
Questions and answers
Your health is our goal - a matter of course? Yes, but Fleetinsel Hospital Hamburg goes beyond this in what it offers. Because we do not only want for you to get well, but you should also have a feeling of well-being during your stay with us. Carefully read through the following information so that you can prepare for your stay at Fleetinsel Hospital Hamburg. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact our managing director, Ms Roswitha Dethlefs.
What do I have to bear in mind before my operation?
Since most operations are carried out right on the day of admission, start your preparations already at home. On the day before your operation only eat easily digestible foods and drink as much (non-alcoholic) liquid as possible. This will clear your gastrointestinal tract. Prior to a celioscopy, a laxative will also be taken. You will have to turn up for the operation on an empty stomach. Do not in such case eat or drink anything as of 12 o'clock midnight the night before.
Also be sure to note that you will have to stop taking any blood-thinning medications in good time prior to the operation. This group of medications also includes preparations containing acetylsalicylic acid, such as ASS, Godamed etc.
How am I insured?
Examine your medical insurance papers at home. Do you have an extra charge for single or double rooms? Bring the documents with you if anything is unclear.
What takes place on admission?
On the day of admission you sign a treatment contract at the hospital reception desk. The hospital requires this contract as documentation for the start of the inpatient treatment. Patients who are not privately insured or for whom no cost assumption plan is available (so-called direct payers) have to furnish an advance payment in the amount of € 1,200.00.
What documents do I have to bring with me?
Be sure not to forget the papers necessary for the operation (declaration of consent for the operation and the anaesthesia) as well as any laboratory findings there might be from your GP.
Do I have to bring my own medications with me?
We, of course, provide you with medications in connection with operations we carry out. Be sure, however, to bring along all the medications you otherwise regularly take. Note: Aspirin or ASS must not be taken for at least one week prior to your operation.
What do I need to pack?
A robe, towels and a hairdryer will be provided in your room. Be sure to bring pyjamas, house shoes and personal toiletry articles along with you.
How long will I remain in hospital?
You will be informed prior to your operation about the duration of the hospitalisation required. We always make an effort to carry out operations on the day of admission. As a rule, patients are discharged 48 to 72 hours after their operation at the latest.
What is the best way for me to get home after I am discharged?
No one who does not feel 100% physically fit should drive themselves. We cannot assume any responsibility if you decide to drive yourself. We recommend, however, using public transportation or having someone pick you up.
When may I receive visitors?
Visitors are welcome at any time. In consideration of other patients, visiting hours end at 9 p.m.
