A portrait of our hospital

Fleetinsel Hospital Hamburg is a specialised hospital with the following fields of orthopaedic specialisation:

  • Spinal surgery
  • Joint surgery
  • Foot surgery
  • Sports medicine

and the surgical specialisations of:

  • General surgery
  • Vascular surgery

Being a specialised hospital, we are equipped with the most advanced technology for diagnosis and operations. Thus our high-tech computer sonograph allows colour ultrasound examinations that are entirely painless for patients, providing doctors with a special panorama image and thereby highly reliable data for determining the most favourable and safe operating method. Computer-controlled navigation systems assist in carrying out cruciate ligament repairs, hip and knee endoprotheses as well as various spinal column operations. As a result, operations are better-suited to the anatomy than was possible in the past.

Due to the high number of operations carried out per year, physicians at Fleetinsel Hospital Hamburg are provided with an optimum of experience. Our physicians actively obtain further education at conferences and conventions so as to always be up to date on latest findings. They impart their knowledge as instructors and speakers. In addition, the qualification of our physicians is acknowledged through their chairing of medical academic societies.

The best patient is a well-informed patient. The operating physician and the anaesthesiologist are available for patients to turn to for all medical matters. In a detailed discussion, patients are informed by their physicians about the methods of diagnosis, narcosis and operating as well as their period of hospitalisation, going easy on themselves and their ability to bear up to stressing after the operation.

Since the physicians at Fleetinsel Hospital Hamburg are specialised in minimally invasive, microsurgical and endoscopic operating techniques, patients frequently manage with surprisingly short, time-saving periods of hospitalisation. For this very reason, Fleetinsel Hospital Hamburg is frequently the choice of patients "without much time to be ill" and on the hunt for a hospital providing short in-patient surgery.

Short periods of hospitalisation due to such microsurgical operations are a significant advantage. The period of hospitalisation for patients can also be greatly shortened even in cases of open operations. Endoprosthesis patients, for example, leave our hospital in seven to eleven days to go into in-patient or out-patient rehabilitation treatment in their hometown. In selecting the operating technique, however, safety and gentle care of the patient are always the top priority of considerations. Operations on our patients are carried out in an ultramodern operating wing equipped in accordance with the latest standards. In addition, our patients can rely on professional care in the recovery room and on the ward.
